Main Purpose of the Job:
The Welfare Managers’ key responsibility is the overall welfare of the students to ensure they are safe, secure, happy and respect other students, staff and the facilities.
Duties
- Assist in setting up course in situ in advance of students’ arrival, including unpacking, distribution and storage of course materials.
- Ensure that all staff are allocated bedrooms spread around the boarding houses and plan ahead with room allocations for students for the duration of the course.
- Maintain the overall welfare of all of the students through excellent levels of provision for every student.
- Prioritize the safety and well-being of all students, ensuring compliance with the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Promote a culture of vigilance and awareness among staff and students.
- Manage a team of Welfare Leaders (WLs) who have the responsibility for the routine pastoral care and welfare of the students at all times.
- Assist in induction of students and group leaders onto course.
- Welcomes the students on the first Sunday co-ordinating orientation around the site, allocation of and checking into rooms, banking and calls home.
- Co-ordinate and support the welfare leader team, motivating and leading through example.
- Co-ordinate with the Centre Director and centre staff on arrival and departure duties to ensure the safe arrival/departure of all students.
- Liaise with the Centre Management team on the morning meetings and participate as appropriate.
- Take responsibility for the health, safety, welfare and discipline of the students anticipating discrimination, bullying and damage.
- Ensure fire and safety procedures are displayed and adhered to, including fire drills within 48 hours of arrival and accommodation checks.
- Run a Welfare Desk to provide information to students, Group Leaders and staff to ensure all needs and concerns are being addressed.
- Carry out night duty on a rota basis and supervise other staff on duty making sure that all buildings are locked, secure and all students are safely in their rooms.
- Create rotas to ensure effective supervision of students throughout the day (particularly individuals), assisting with these welfare duties including meal supervision and bedtime supervision.
- Deal quickly and efficiently with any complaints or issues relating to the accommodation and welfare of the students.
- Report maintenance issues to staff and ensure the cleanliness of the residence is maintained to the standards of the school.
- Ensure risk assessments are up to date and available for staff.
- Assist in the closing down of the course, repacking and stock checking.
- Oversee the smooth running of the tuck shop and informing the Director if stocks are running low.
- Ensure that ECI (UK) Health and Safety policies are implemented and adhered to at all times.

- Act as the assistant local Designated Safeguarding Officer and Designated Safeguarding officer when the CD is away
- Qualifications and experience
- Experience of managing a team and working with teenagers in a residential environment
- DBS certification
Requirements of the Job:
- Attendance at ECI online training and pre-course induction
- Attendance during the course on a rota basis for six days per week
- One full day off per week
- Completion of level 3 safeguarding course (arranged by ECI)
