a Bank Letter

We advise students to open a digital bank account. Revolut and Wise are quick options to open a bank account and require less documentation.

If you require a bank account for your job in Ireland, speak with your employer about which account they would prefer you to have. Alternatively, you can open a bank account at Bank of Ireland or AIB.

Bank account options

AIB and Bank of Ireland are Ireland’s two largest banks. AIB Rathgar is Emerald’s local bank, 14 minutes from Palmerston Park on foot. Opening an account at AIB or Bank of Ireland normally takes longer and requires more documentation.

To open an Irish bank account at AIB Rathgar

Check the requirements

To open a bank account at AIB Rathgar, you must be a student for 6 months or more and have Chubb or GuardMe Irish Medical Insurance with your correct Irish address on it.

Please make sure your Irish Medical Insurance shows your correct Irish address before requesting the letter.

Book an appointment online. Alternatively, you can go to the bank and book an appointment in person.

Request your ECI Bank Letter

You can collect your Bank Letter from the Student Welfare Office 2 days after requesting it online.

AIB Rathgar Address: 9 Terenure Road East, Rathgar, Dublin 6.

It takes 7 to 9 days for the bank to send your debit card and PIN number in two separate letters.
